SUSTAINABILITY & THE CARBON CONUNDRUM

The sustainability of concrete construction is the key issue facing the cement and concrete industries, particularly the concerns related to embodied energy and carbon dioxide generation. While there is good awareness of the problem, and several initiatives to make concrete more sustainable are underway, there is still no consensus on the best approach to improving the sustainability of the material or the structures for which it is used. Furthermore, there should be a deeper exploration of the positive role that cement and concrete can play in improved energy efficiency and carbon emissions related to the infrastructure through more efficient construction processes, better design, and more durable structures.

The aim of Anna Maria Workshop XXII will be to examine these issues and more. We are therefore inviting presentations dealing with (but not necessarily limited to) the following topic areas:

We look forward to seeing you on beautiful Anna Maria Island in November.
