THE JAN SKALNY MEMORIAL MEETING

The Anna Maria Workshop series was initiated 20 years ago by Dr. Jan P. Skalny. Its formation represented a commendable attempt to bring together some of the best minds in the cement and concrete field to discuss the most important issues facing the industry. The primary idea was to organize a comfortable, informal gathering where participants from academia, industry and government agencies would be free to generate constructive discussion on important issues. As a lover of all things intellectual and creative, and a devotee of ‘discussion’ in every sense of the word, Jan enjoyed the resulting meeting immensely.

Needless to say, it was a huge success, and a very popular format among the participants. Now, nearly two decades later, we are in the process of planning the 20th iteration of the workshop, albeit under rather melancholy circumstances. With Jan’s passing earlier this spring, we will be dedicating this year’s workshop to his memory. His wide ranging set of interests make limiting the subject matter of the meeting difficult so we will be opening the floor to any important issues related to the cement and concrete industry.

We are therefore inviting presentations dealing with (but not necessarily limited to) the following topic areas:

We look forward to seeing you on beautiful Anna Maria Island in November.
